Are you 18 or over? Yes, I am 19. 0u0
Canon: MSPA: Homestuck
Character: Jane Crocker.
Timeline: Act 6 Part 2, [S] Jane: Proceed.
Personality:
Jane is perhaps the most cool headed of the Alpha children, often by her proclaimed best friend Roxy she is called “uptight” or a “tightass” simply because she maintains a very business-like approach to things and she has a very low tolerance for people acting out of line. However, Jane is not really perceived with the stricter aspects of her personality. She is a free spirit, and often found enjoying things like Detective stories, Situational Comedies, and just humor in general. Jane has a very happy outlook on life and there isn’t much that could really get in the way of her thinking like that.
Another thing to remember is that Jane is a teenager. She is a teenager that also happens to be a girl. It is most certainly normal to see that her, as well as Roxy and (supposedly one-sided in the back of his own mind) Dirk have a crush on Jake- and she went and messed it up for herself. After she had gotten in contact with him she outright denies having any feelings for him (when she obviously does). This displays that while she had lied and ultimately landed herself in the friendzone, she would refuse to take it back.
It takes a lot to put Miss Crocker to her shame. I believe this may be a re-instated theme with her. She is an intelligent teenaged girl, old fashioned at best, and living in Washington. She is the heiress of a major company, and while she wants to goof off and horseplay with her friends she must retain a very business-like appearance and speech pattern to not embarrass herself and the company. To be a proper heiress you must set a good example for your company.
Jane is an old-fashioned girl, her syntax and grammar are impeccable. Even with the occasional emoticon within her chat logs, it is seen that Jane even seems a bit uptight when communicating with her friends. She uses a lot of older slang terms such as “dagnabit”, “golly”, and of course “plumb stupid”. She finds that she is correcting her friends even in online chat. However, when Jane is seen excited, or even frustrated, she loses her composure and her grammar deteriorates
One of the more negative and completely dislikable things about Jane’s personality is her lack of belief in things, and her over skepticism. It is proven that in canon events, Jane doesn’t take heed to word at all and needs any proof before she is going to wise up and listen to someone, and this means even if they have been notifying her about for the past how many ever times that they happened to have had a chance to a conversation. This very situation happened with Roxy and her outrageous claims about the Crocker Company. She has a very hard time seeing things any way but her own, and will stand by her belief with a firm foot until she gets it proven to her.
Jane can come off as a bit immature and closed minded sometimes, often dazing around in her own little area of her mind where she is the only one right. Because of this lack of maturity, she often loses her patience and goes off and does things on her own, frustrating not only her father but her friends as well. This kind of thing has resulted in a near-death experience twice. Even in an instance like this, she is never too proud to admit that she was wrong. She has her pride to keep after all!
She regards everyone around her fondly, and she tends to care deeply for those that she loves. As quite similar to the Beta session and John, Jane was denoted the leader of their group. This is a title she takes with a level head, even though in the comic itself it never really gives much purpose to the title. She unlike John is fearless, not running away from her problems unless they absolutely get nasty enough.
Background :
Before we can even begin to delve within the background of Jane Crocker, it is necessary to look back to the very beginning of the web comic. It starts off with a young boy named John Egbert, who met three people on the internet; Dave Strider, Rose Lalonde, and Jade Harley.
It is John’s birthday, and this when the four start a session in a game called “Sburb”. This game was not played on any game console; it was played in the real world. The children were able to use their imaginations to create their own setting and prototype their own sprites the way they wanted them; however it ended up not working that way for John as well as he’d hoped- his kernelsprite prototyped with his deceased grandmother!
They play the game, play the game, and play the game more before they realize that this isn’t just about playing the game anymore. It’s resetting the game completely. They have to accomplish this via the scratch. There’s only one dent in the bumper however if they reset the session back to normal there is a huge possibility that the very world that they have come to know and come to love very much could be changed forever. They know the risks they are taking and decide it would be in their best interest to attempt to reset their session. Dave and Rose meet up with the trolls at this point; John and Jade have managed to break the fourth wall. Here is where they must wait for three entire years.
This takes us straight into Act 6, where we meet our four new main characters: Jane Crocker, Roxy Lalonde, Dirk Strider, and Jake English. At first it is very much like everything has been flipped within the universes. Jane has John as her Poppop, Rose is assumed to be Roxy’s mother, Jade is Jake’s grandmother, and Dave is Dirk’s older brother. See, they are practically flipped around.
Formally introduced here is Jane Crocker, a 15 and a half year old girl from Washington that has been chosen as a tester for the Alpha version of Sburb (funny how things work since John Egbert lived in the very same house in his respective session). Being in the Alpha session she also had a role in the Beta session. Remember the prototyped Kernelsprite that belonged to John? That’s right, Jane Crocker is Nanna of the Beta session. Often hanging around to bake John cookies and give him lingering advice. She becomes sort of a guide and a push for him to get into the Medium. Unfortunately, John lost her Sprite Necklace within one of his many adventures.
We discover that Jane lives with her father in their lovely little suburban Washington home, and is the heiress of the prestigious Betty Crocker Company! She is proud to say that she will be taking over this company someday and that her friend’s stupid claims of there being some sort of “batterwitch” are completely rude and unacceptable, she is Betty Crocker’s number one fan after all.
Being an heiress she is trapped within her house all the time by her father since there are normally several attempts on her life at a time, and golly is that unacceptable! She often speaks with her friends Dirk Strider, Roxy Lalonde, and Jake English. After several attempts of Roxy trying to put out crazy claims on the Crocker Company, Act 6 Part 1 draws to a close as Jane scampers out to her mailbox and the proof she needed all along exploded directly in her face. Jane awakens on Prospit and is admiring the start of something new, this however is short lived when Jack Noir stabs her in his ploy to kill all of the Alpha children; Jake’s dreamself had already been killed by allergy his deathly allergy to peanuts. The first hint of her taking her title “Maid of Life” is when she assumedly resurrects by doing a “Lifey” thing. Jack makes another attempt on her life and that becomes short lived.
Act 6 Part 2 opens to Jane sleeping soundly by her home, GodCat (the supposed guardian) has been the one assumed to have saved Jane. Roxy sends her a deadly ~ATH code and her computer explodes and once again GodCat saves her. Dirk becomes her server player, and with the help of the AR Jane is able to safely get into her father’s study and have a minor flip out session with Jake and outright denies any feelings that she may have had for him. With that one her plate she creates the Cruxite tree, and her and her house disappear into thin air.
We have arrived at the Land of Crypts and Helium, which will take us straight to my current canon point.
Abilities/Additional Notes:
Jane really has no canon ability besides baking! She’s really good at baking. She is the heiress of a baking company after all.
A common skill between all Homestuck characters is their Sylladex with a specified fetch modus. A Sylladex comes in many different shapes and forms, and each Sylladex is notably in great reference to their owner. Jane’s fetch modus is Recipe, giving Jane the ability to store her items within with a specific “recipe” the items are made up of.
Another ability that can be noted is her Strife Specibus. Jane not only has one, but she has two! She retains forkkind and spoonkind with none other than her trusty Junior Battermaster's Bowlbuster Stirring Solution 50000, which is easily changed with the flick of a button! This trusty Specibus is not only handy for cooking! It has several million recipes stored within it, and that is the best kind for a Junior Batterlass like herself! Both of these things can attribute to Jane’s love for cooking.
She has also been given the title “Maid of Life”, though the full potential of her ability has not yet to have been revealed by Andrew Hussie. Yet, gentle hints here and there suggest there is potential for great power within Jane.
